Improved Production Cars
This group is for cars built up from formerly registered passenger cars, with limited modifications to improve performance and reliability in circuit racing. To be eligible, the makes and models used must be or have been mass-produced "Touring Cars" sold in Australia, homologated for the FIA's Group A, or be specially approved; while mass-produced sports cars are looked after by ProdSports.
There is a control-spec all-weather tyre for the group, available across multiple wheel and tyre sizes. In 2026 the group introduced the Bridgestone POTENZA RE-71RS as the control tyre.
While the permitted modifications have limits, this group allows for the creation of a significantly modified car, much more than Production Car racing allows. Those that take the permitted changes to the maximum have built the fastest all-weather tyre circuit race cars in the country.
The following overview is copied stright from the rule book: Improved Production has been adopted by Motorsport Australia as a sporting-level touring car category. Motorsport Australia is ultimately responsible for the approval of the regulations or changes thereto, and responsible for publishing the regulations via the Motorsport Australia Manual and associated Bulletins as necessary. The Improved Production Racing Association of Australia (IPRA) is recognised by Motorsport Australia as the sole entity representing competitors in this category. The IPRA is the category representative group which is made up of a representative from each of the Motorsport Australia and IPRA-affiliated Improved Production state associations.
QRDA Club Championship - Improved Production Cars
For members of the QRDA competing in Improved Production Cars, the club championship is scored across all the Trophy Tour events for a given season.
The Improved Production Cars group can be combined in races for Sports Sedans & Invited Cars or with other groups depending on how many groups need to fit on an event program, but each member will be scored agains the other Improved Production Cars at the event for our club awards.
In the unlikely event a promoter does not include Improved Production Cars on their Trophy Tour program, our members are happily accepted on the Sports Sedans & Invited Cars grid and will still be awarded club points as Improved Production Cars.
